Testimonials

“I’m thrilled to share my experience with Deva and the incredible impact her curriculum has had on my daughter over the past two years. As a parent, I was struggling to find a way to support my daughter's literacy challenges. I sought countless resources to find effective ways to enhance my child's literacy skills, and finally, we found Deva's program which has exceeded our expectations.

From the moment my daughter began working with Deva, she was engaged and excited about learning. With Deva's guidance, my daughter has unlocked the mysteries of the English language on her own. This discovery-driven learning method has not only made reading enjoyable for my daughter but has also empowered her confidence in her abilities. This year she has been reading novels, for FUN! Her teachers have asked me what we are doing and I am so happy to tell them about Reading For Life!

The structured support she offers ensures that both parents and students are never left feeling overwhelmed. We appreciate the ongoing guidance, which has been instrumental in our journey toward literacy. The curriculum is meticulously crafted to cater to individual learning styles and abilities. The custom variety of activities keeps her engaged and fosters a deep understanding of language fundamentals.

Thanks to Deva’s program, my daughter is not only becoming a skillful reader and writer but is also developing a lifelong love for learning. I wholeheartedly recommend Deva’s curriculum to any parent or teacher looking to make a meaningful difference in their child's literacy journey. We are proud to be part of the Reading For Life family!”

“Thank you so much for taking Emma as a student. James and I loved reading Emma's stories. They opened up a whole new side of her and gave her a chance to express the stories and thoughts that she has inside. The progress Emma made during her time with you astounds us. She went from not being able to write short sentences to writing long stories! Her spelling, vocabulary and understanding of language grew by leaps and bounds! My only regret is that we didn't start with you sooner!”

“Our daughter is unschooled and just began expressing a strong interest in reading. Finding Deva sealed the deal for us. Her teaching is fluid and organized, with plenty of fun and ability to connect with our ordinarily ‘shy’ daughter. I am so grateful for the style and teaching she offers!”

“You’re the best reading teacher I have ever had. Thank you so much for teaching me how to read! I couldn’t dream of a better class. I couldn’t read one color of the word ring and now I’m starting to read a chapter book! You are incredible!”

“My son has come so far with RFL. He has always had an aversion to written text even though he could memorize symbols easily. My biggest compliment (which may not sound like a compliment, but truly is one in my son’s case) is that he doesn’t mind spending hours learning to read with Ms. Deva. The fact that he doesn’t fight attending is a big win in my book. He has made huge improvements.”

”Abby seems like a different kid since she started tutoring with you. Her math curriculum is online with a text book. She has the option to enter her answers into the computer program, or she can write them out.  In the past she never wanted to write her answers out and now she only wants to write her answers. It seems like her reading and writing has improved so much in such a short time period. Her confidence with reading and writing has grown a ton too. I don't know where she would be right now if you weren't working with her. Thank you for all your work with Abby!”

“Hi! I just saw your RFL email and wanted to say hello! We miss you and life in Chico but have adjusted well here. I wanted to pass along Cambria’s recent reading scores. She jumped from middle of the pack to near the top of her class! Her confidence and skills are a testament to your investment. Thank you for serving emerging readers. You are a gift!”

“My daughter has only been with RFL for two months and her reading skills have improved so much. I am very happy with how well she is doing with her reading and how quickly she has gotten there.”

“Dear Ms. Deva and Mr. Deveaux, I cannot tell you just how very much I appreciate you both and your program. You have blessed us in more ways than one. We will continue to sing your praises to anyone in need of excellent literacy instruction! Rylan has grown leaps and bounds and it’s all thanks to Reading For Life. Be blessed, because you are a blessing!”

-Genessa Raynor

“To Ms. Deva and Mr. Deveaux, I’m extremely grateful for the two of you. Thank you for opening your home and teaching my son Rylan to read. Your consistency, kindness, and dedication are what make your class great. We are truly sad that this is the end. The end of a class, but the beginning of a reading journey.”

-Kevin Raynor

“We had such a positive experience with this program. Both of my kids were behind grade level in reading when they started, and in just one semester they were up to grade level reading! Deva is patient, creative and fun. The kids enjoyed their class time and worked hard on the homework and it really made a huge difference in their confidence and ability to decode the English language. I recommend this class for those who may be behind, struggling to catch up, or for those who just want to strengthen the skills they already have.”

“Deva is amazing! My son has a speech disorder that makes reading hard for him, and Deva has gone over and beyond to help him succeed to the best of his abilities and I'm forever grateful for her and highly recommend her.”

“In raising children, there is often the debate of nature vs nurture. To what degree do we let their natural development unfold and when/how do we intervene? That was our debate with our son's slow progress in developing reading skills. His older brother was self-taught and reading chapter books by age 6. We wanted to trust our second born would follow on his own timeline. However, as time went on, and reading did not come naturally, he developed a negative self-image of himself as a learner, and he didn’t want a class to teach him how to read. At the age of 7, he already viewed reading as a negative (unless mom was reading.... he still loved books in general). Deva was great at developing rapport, keeping it fun and being innovative. By taking activities home, we were able to make quick progress. My son can now read! He can see print in his environment and puzzle it out. I still don't think it has "clicked" for him developmentally, but while we wait for that to happen, he has the tools he needs to participate in his Montessori classwork and feel good about himself as a learner. Thank you Deva!”

“I really like Reading For Life because it shows you how to read in a different way that makes more sense. I really enjoy coming and working on my reading and writing. It's really nice to be able to read books a lot easier. I also learned that I really enjoy reading. And I love the cats!”

“Thank you for working with Bryce this school year. Her reading has come so far. We attest this growth to her weekly work with you and the Reading For Life program.
